The Folklore of Fireflies and Summer Evenings in Northeast Oklahoma
In Northeast Oklahoma, summer does not arrive all at once. It gathers slowly in the thick green shade of creek banks, in the rising call of cicadas, in the warm breath of gravel roads after sunset, and in the first small flashes of fireflies blinking above the grass. We do not simply see summer here. We hear it, smell it, walk through it, and remember it long after childhood has passed us by.
