Nacho Night!

Another great meeting and fellowship with our Creative Writing Life Group.

Nacho Night was a success this past Friday night and we had a lot more food than I expected - but everything was sooo good! We also had more great fellowship over creative writing and everyone seems to be honing their craft along the way.

This week's topic was adding tension to your writing to help create interest. Of course, there always has to be conflict for a story to be good and this conflict can be internal as well as external (or both).

We discussed several different ways of creating tension in a story; these had to do with a "timed countdown" that added an extra layer of urgency to the plot. We also discussed being on an elevator with a stranger and how music is used in many movies and television shows to create tension and set the tone.

After viewing a video on the topic, The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis,

we all got to writing for about 25 minutes. Once the writing was finished, we all shared our stories and thoughts about how each story is evolving or changing.

We had some really interesting offerings in the forms of testimony, fiction, creative non-fiction, and even a couple of stories written in verse; one in the form of an iambic pentameter (or maybe hexameter) containing heroic couplets and another in the form of an anapestic meter.  I am continually amazed at the quality and depth of the stories that are being created in this group! Praise be to God!

One last thing is the issue of the original "TENSION" video I was trying to locate. I will post it here for future reference and hopefully I will be able to find it next time I need it.

This is going to wrap this post and, until next time, "May the Lord bless you and protect you."
